Is it time?
There is a mystical sensation in all of us that knows when we experience true happiness, even if we cannot properly define it. Very often we are not even certain of all the trigger points that keep it vibrant once it kicks into high gear. This problem appears to be particularly true for persons who stay in the corporate world just long enough to lose sight of the beauty that surround us everyday and who need to rediscover your purpose.
Taking the common sense approach by staying in a job that provides no sense of satisfaction, versus choosing the equally unsatisfactory possibility of being penniless and homeless – is often not a real choice, just a means of survival and a state of losing sight of your purpose.
Here are some strategies that can help.
5 ways to rediscover your purpose
1 – Embrace happiness
It may sound strange, but giving yourself permission to be happy changes you. It opens you up to positive thoughts and deliberate actions that direct you towards your happy realm.. Find the thing that brings out the best in you and gives you great satisfaction and do it!
For so many reasons and often for long periods of time, we make the needs of others, be it family or friends our main priority. We do what we think is necessary to make others happy or just keep the peace. This is often done at the expense of ourselves.
2 – Live free
This is a journey. Physical, personal, financial, environmental and spiritual health is critical to true freedom. Finding the right balance that allows you to be a better version of yourself, is achievable by taking deliberate steps in the direction of your goal.
3 – Stay focused
When you begin to take steps in the direction of your goal, there will be many distractions (aka “life happens”). Stay focused! Progress can only be made when keep moving forward.
4 – Set milestones
As you move towards your goals, you will pass by the milestones that mark your progress. Celebrating those moments is a great self-motivation strategy and better if you can share the moment with others.
5 – Engage in life-long learning
Never take for granted that you know everything you need to know about the thing that brings you great joy. If it is your purpose – the thing that will make you truly happy, then learning more and more about it can only increase that sense of deep satisfaction.
Being a lifelong learner is so important! I just turned 55 and the older I get the more I realize how much I don’t know 🙂
